Massapequa, NY Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel

Feast your eyes on open, elegant spaces and designs ready to meet modern needs! Kuhn Construction transforms homes into beautiful, functional spaces tailored to our clients’ needs. Our latest project on Anchor Drive showcases a stunning kitchen and bathroom remodel that addressed several common challenges and delivered an exceptional outcome. Located near the water in Massapequa, this home was originally remodeled by the previous owner after SuperStorm Sandy. Unfortunately, many of those renovations were poorly executed. The new owners, a young family with two small children, found us through our Kitchen Estimator tool and entrusted us to create a safer and more functional home. Step inside for this insider tour!

First Floor Enhancements

Client Priorities

The clients had specific priorities for their remodel.
  • Remove Asbestos Flooring: The original tile floor was improperly laid over asbestos flooring. Our first priority was to remove the hazardous material safely with the help of a certified hazmat removal company.
  • Functional Kitchen Layout: The existing kitchen layout was impractical, featuring an oddly placed island with a connecting peninsula. We moved the range to a new location and reconfigured the layout to create a more open and functional space, including a new peninsula with a waterfall edge.
  • Consistent Design: The clients wanted a cohesive look throughout the home. By replacing mismatched baseboards and door and window trims, we created a unified aesthetic.
  • Addressing Plumbing Issues: During the demo, we discovered a leak from the master shower that required immediate attention. The homeowners and construction team decided to expand the project scope to include a full bathroom remodel, ensuring all plumbing issues were resolved.
  • Timeline: The clients needed the project completed in time to host an event shortly after the remodel. Despite the added scope of work, our team worked diligently to stay on schedule. Through effective project management and clear communication with the clients, we completed the remodel on time, ensuring their home was ready for their special occasion.

Design and Planning

Design Style: Transitional Elegance

The design style for the Anchor Drive project embraced transitional elements, blending modern and classic touches to create a timeless, elegant space. The clients opted for a light and bright color palette featuring whites, grays, and subtle blues. This cohesive design appears throughout the kitchen and primary bathroom, creating a harmonious flow from one space to the next.

Rooms Remodeled

  • Main Floor Kitchen/Den Area: The kitchen was the focal point of the remodel, involving significant layout changes to open up the space and reflect more current preferences.
  • Foyer and Corridor: We replaced the entire first-floor tile, extending from the foyer down a short corridor to a half bath and into the main living and kitchen space. This provided a seamless transition between areas and improved the overall design consistency.
  • Laundry Room: We committed to the cohesive new ambiance with paint work to refresh the space.
  • Primary Bathroom: We needed to add a complete remodel to address plumbing issues and update the design to match the transitional style.

Elegant Kitchen Countertops

Spectrum quartz stone countertops were chosen for their durability and sleek appearance. The quartz surfaces offered a modern yet timeless appeal.

Subtle Backsplash Playfulness

A herringbone pattern marble mosaic backsplash served as a striking visual focal point, adding texture and interest to the space. The marble’s natural variations and intricate pattern add complexity and interest.

Modern Appliances

This kitchen features modern stainless steel appliances, including a French door refrigerator, double wall ovens, and an induction cooktop.

Luxe Lighting

The kitchen lighting was carefully planned to ensure a bright and welcoming environment. We installed recessed ceiling lights for general illumination, under-cabinet lighting to highlight the countertops, and pendant lights with clear glass shades over the peninsula.

Updated Kitchen Layout and Open Design

The new layout featured an open design with a peninsula attached to the wall, providing additional workspace and seating. This configuration seamlessly integrated the kitchen with the living area, making it ideal for both everyday use and entertaining.

Kitchen Flooring

Large rectangular gray porcelain tiles were installed throughout the kitchen and adjoining spaces, creating a cohesive flow. The durable and stylish tiles added to the home’s overall modern yet classic aesthetic.

Special Features in This Custom Kitchen

The kitchen also boasts several special features, including a custom range hood cover with detailed molding and glass-front upper cabinets for display. These elements added character and sophistication to the space, a shining example of what design-build kitchen remodeling can accomplish.

Bathroom Remodel

The bathroom remodel at Anchor Drive was a significant aspect of the project, transforming an outdated and problematic space into a functional and stylish en suite.

New Bathroom Vanity

The master bathroom features a compact, shaker-style white vanity with ample storage. Topped with a durable quartz countertop, the vanity provides both practicality and elegance. The clean lines and bright finish contribute to the bathroom’s transitional style.

Ensuite Shower

One of the key elements of the bathroom remodel was the enlarged shower footprint. We replaced the old, leaking shower with a spacious, modern design featuring a glass door and brushed nickel hardware. The shower walls combine large format tiles with a mosaic accent strip, adding visual interest and a touch of luxury.

Large Format Bathroom Flooring

We updated bathroom floors with large rectangular gray porcelain tiles, providing a cohesive look with the rest of the home. These beautiful tiles are durable and easy to maintain, ideal for a busy family.

Shower Storage Niche

A built-in storage niche in the shower, lined with mosaic tiles, ensures that shower essentials are easily accessible while adding a decorative element to the space.

Sleek Nickel Fixtures

The bathroom has modern Kohler fixtures, including an elongated toilet and a sleek undermount sink with a high-arc faucet. These fixtures, in brushed nickel, sing in the same modern notes as the rest of this home update in Massapequa.

Lighting

Modern cylindrical glass lighting fixtures crown the mirror, providing ample illumination for daily routines while adding a contemporary touch to the bathroom. The combination of natural light from the windows and well-placed artificial lighting ensures a bright and welcoming atmosphere.

Color Scheme

The bathroom’s color scheme of soft grays, whites, and blues echoes the main floor update’s serene and airy feel.
